MERRY CHRISTMAS. David M. (2n batx B)

Merry Christmas

Christmas is coming and now it’s time to prepare it. Most of families must be putting their Christmas tree in the living room at the moment or assembling the nativity scene. During the following days people are going to meet with their families and celebrate Christmas together.

The gift is one of the main characteristics of Christmas. People are given presents as a symbol of love, friendship... hate... I think the best present are that you don’t wait for it because it surprises you and lets you discover if people know you. Instead, those gifts you request in the three wise men’s letter are totally different. If the three wise men bring you the presents you asked for you will be glad because your dream will have become reality, but, if you don’t receive the desire presents you will sink in the bitterest sadness. Due to these couple of possibilities I prefer people demonstrate me and surprise with the gift with which they think I became delighted.

Christmas is also time to reflect, to be a better person. When you are made a favour return it, you will feel fulfilled. If you follow the Christmas spirit you will wake up each day with more energy and lively, you will go radiating happiness for the street.

Finally, I would like to give and advice if you want to receive your Christmas gifts. I recommend you to ask them to the three Wise Men because I have been said Santa Claus has been dismissed due to the crisis.

MERRY CHRISTMAS. Jennifer B. (2n batx A)

It’s Christmas. Everybody shows its Christmas spirit, I mean people are kinder, friendlier and more willing to help somebody. But I don’t understand because people show this attitude only in Christmas, what about the rest of the year?

I am conscious that, maybe, there doesn’t exist anybody that helps everyone that could along the year. But I think that everyone could try it. Why? I can give some reasons:
1. Helping someone is absolutely comfortable.
2. Helping someone is free and makes the involved happy.
3. Helping someone sometimes means doing little things like opening the door to someone that is loaded down.
4. Helping someone means giving the hope that people can be
kind.
If they aren’t enough, think that there is always someone out there that needs help.

A few days ago, I listened about very shocking news: “on a cold November night in Times Square, Officer Lawrence DePrimo was working a counterterrorism post when he encountered an older, barefooted homeless man. The officer disappeared for a moment, then returned with a new pair of boots, and knelt to help the man put them on.” When I listened it, I got goose pimples and it made me recover the hope that there are still people with a very big heart.

This Christmas, I wish that everybody helps each other because we are all living a very difficult situation. This world doesn’t need cruel people because  life is already too difficult.

MERRY CHRISTMAS. Noa G. (3r ESO C)

Christmas in family!

At Christmas my sister and I prepare the tree together. My mother goes crazy decorating the house because she decorates it like U.S.A house. In my opinion, having a santa of 2'50 m at balcony is a bit exaggerated!

What's more, in each door there is hanging a sock because as we haven't got chimeney, she doesn't know where to put them. A part of this, my father doesn't like the decoration because he thinks that it gets dirty a lot the house and after it, we have to clean all.    However, there isn't any problem for him.

Every year my family and I meet at my house for having dinner together and then we play sing star. Obviously, I always win the game; I don't win because I sing very well, but I play it a lot and I know some tricks that they don't know!

Not only do we like singing, but we also love watching Christmas movies on the sofa! I love Christmas!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS. Laura M. (2n batx A)

‘Merry Christmas’ they said. This means we’re on the last days of 2012. Some people believe that the end of world is getting close. But this is not what I’m going to talk about. I mean, Christmas is the time of the year when families and friends are supposed to stay together. I’ve said ‘supposed’ because there’s always an exception.

I always push myself to reach, at least, one goal each year. Obviously, is something private, but it gives me the necessary strength to arrive at end of the next year. This sounds depressive, but it’s not the way which I’m referring to. The top which I had pretended to reach was helping people and encouraging them to help another people. I mean, a helping chain. As I was helping people I felt really good with myself. As far as I’m concerned, the world would be rather better than nowadays working as a helping chain.

The end of this year is really close, but this doesn’t mean I’ll stop helping if someone needs my help. But I will focus my strength in another question, which I won’t say anything about (maybe because I don’t know yet which top I’m going to reach in 2013).

So, during these few weeks all I have to do is trying to find something to fight for all the year round.

Happy Christmas
Be happy and help to be happy

Christmas is the most magical stage of the year. Children of whole world are anxiously waiting for it every year. If you ask a teenager what’s his favorite season of the year, he will say the summer. But if you ask a child what’s his favorite season of the year, he will say Christmas. Not winter, Christmas.

Xmas is a time of love and happiness. It’s time to stay with our friends and families, to laugh and smile with them. It’s time to help people who can’t enjoy it, to do it. It’s time to relax and take it easy. It’s time to pursuit the happiness of everybody in the world.

Some of the things that I’ve said are related with the two vids that we saw in class. The two films talk us about things we can do at Christmas: Reduce stress and help to reduce that. The first video shows an NGO of black skin boys that will help us to reduce stress smiling. The second video shows a pay it forward between different persons that symbolizes that altogether we can make a better world.

Christmas is arriving and we will all have a good time, but you can also help other people, like in the vids, to have a: ¡Happy Christmas!

MERRY CHRISTMAS. Mariona E. (1r batx B)

MERRY CHRISTMAS

When you listen the word Christmas you always think about lights, presents or holidays but is it really only these things? From my point of view, if you think about it seriously you can see that Christmas is more than this...

We live in a corrupt society where people only think of themselves or in the new mobile phone which they can not buy. Christmas is coming and everybody starts to get ready going to the shopping centre and buying all the Christmas presents. I know that it is a period of spending and materialism but you should look around yourself and realize that you are very lucky.

There are other places in the world where people don’t have even half of our advantages and their smile is so much pure that you can think they are the richest people in the world. They value much more happiness and generosity than other material things and they have a humility that we would like to have here. Sometimes I would like that they come here and teach us how to be humans. If I was one of these people, I would be horrified with our lives. We are falling in a selfishness hole. Fortunately, there are still people who fight every day to make a better world.

On the other hand, Christmas is a period full of happiness, love and solidarity. It makes you a better person and shows the best things of you. For example, nowadays we are living in a crisis situation and lots of families and people don’t have a job or a home to stay for Christmas. More than ever, I think we must be supportive and stay together. I would wish these people not to fall into misery and to move on. You must believe on magic of Christmas and see a fair world. It’s a period to think and give to other people.

In my opinion, we can always be a better person if we want to. I’m not talking about miracles or feats, small details are the ones that show us how to help each other.  Christmas is the opportunity to make something different, to think in new objectives, to be supportive, to believe in magic, to help others, to make your dreams come true...So, Christmas is not only a few weeks, it is the whole year. I want to celebrate it everyday and wish to all of you the same, Merry Christmas!

CHRISTMAS TIME

Christmas is time of lights, songs, snow, and happiness. I love these dates because the ambient is beautiful. I like walking along the streets and seeing the people shopping, the shops in the street about Christmas things. I thing that Christmas are the bests days in the world. But I don’t like Christmas for the presents like many of the people. I like because are special dates and for example I like singing Christmas songs, it’s funny!

When the other people run into the shops, walk for the streets very quickly, when they are making their last shopping. When they buy a lot of things that probably, in one future they don’t need for nothing, they buy toys for her sons and her daughters that in one day, the children will be bored with that… Some people make their special Christmas. They don’t need any present. They only want to pass a really good time with their friends and at the same time, win money to help the other people.

These people that make their own Christmas are a group of boy scouts. A little group of teenagers that, when the Christmas time arrives, they go to the center of their village and sing famous Christmas songs. I make that in my boy scout group and we sing during two days in “Portal de l’Àngel”. The best thing of these moments is looking the faces of the people that pass and look of you, they’re surprised and the most of the people like it. It’s simply, beautiful. The people when see that group were amazed and normally the foreigners because it’s one of our traditions. And when the people see us, they put money in one box. One coin plus other coin plus other coin, during two days that we sing makes a lot of money. This money that we won singing it will be for that people that don’t have it. Because with this money they can pass a really good Christmas like us. They can eat with their families, buy some little presents and of course sing Christmas songs together!

Christmas time. Time of songs, helpful people, days with the family and friends… There are special dates than can make happy a lot of people because one smile it’s not complicated to make. Smile is like a medicine because when you make that you can be pleased the rest of the day. It’s magic!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

 THE CHARM OF CHRISTMAS TIME

Every 24th of December all my family gather together in the house of my grandfather and grandmother. Last year we were the whole family.

All the family collaborate, some of them make the dinner, others prepare the table and things like that, and the youngest, like me, decorate all the house. When all is prepared, we have dinner. Moreover, we played bingo, and traditional and board games, we bet with money, of course.

When I was young, I used to believe in Father Christmas so mu cousin Albert would dress up like Father Christmas and gave to me the presents. Then, I played alone with my toys because I am the youngest of the family. After that, we had been having a good time
Concluding, I wish this celebrations wouldn’t end because, from my point of view it’s a good tradition to live with your family.

MERRY CHRISTMAS. Jaume E. (1r batx B)

Merry Christmas

If you go out to the street those days, you can see all the shops full of people, lots of Christmas lights in every street and people carrying bags and presents. But if you pay attention and you watch the news, everything is going as always: wars, corruption, criminality in the streets rising, burglaries, poorness, ...

Where is the real Christmas spirit? Is consumerism the true Christmas sense? We have forgotten the real Christmas meaning: being happy with few things and making people around you smile.

You can do all these things helping people with some little details, like picking up a wallet that has just fallen from somebody’s pocket and giving it instead of keeping the wallet and getting the money. That kind of gestures make Christmas has sense, not money, presents and cute lights.

Christmas is also a period to relax and disconnect from work and stress and enjoy your time with your family and your friends, and that’s exactly what people don’t do. We are all the time stressed and worried about buying presents, preparing huge dinners for all the family, the money we will have to spend in our Christmas shopping, and our weight after Christmas, and we finally forget about being happy, relaxed and enjoying our life next to our family and our friends.

We have to live Christmas in a more modest way, without lots of presents and lots of food, and staying with our family, being nice with people around us and also living more relaxed. If we want to feel the real Christmas spirit, we have to forget about all material things and start being nice with people around us and helping each other, and we will live in a better world!

Merry Christmas

Every year, when the cold has come and the heat has gone people start to feel the arrival of the winter and in consequence, the Christmas feeling with it.

Every person understands and also, feels Christmas different. In my opinion, there are two types. The first one includes people that for them, their meaning of Christmas is going shopping and wasting money. And so, the rest of people understand Christmas as a way of having time with their family and obviously trying to smile every moment.

For me Christmas is synonym of happiness. I’m always happy in these days and I try to help others and transmit it. I’m happy because of the affection of all my friends to me and equal important, mine to them. On the other hand, what makes me feel too blissful is the city illuminated in many colors and the ice rinks in the squares crowded of families and couples.

In general, as far as I’m concerned, people have the same attitude as me. They are more helpful and friendly. But if we move all these feelings during the rest of the year, not only in Christmas, our world will work better and we will give more importance to those things that deserve it. So be pleasant with others and help those who need help because all these good works incite others to do it too.

Merry Christmas!

The more chocolate you eat, the happier you will feel

If you were expecting for a nice composition about being a good person and helping everyone, you’re reading the wrong one. I think we should be good people and help the others everyday of our lives, so it’s not correct making it more important these days than in others. Also, if I have to start talking about feelings and actions, about good people, I would show that I’m very disappointed with the world around me. I believe in the goodness of men (one of my favorite books is Les Miserables, more than a thousand pages about the goodness of men, so it’s one of my favorite topics to think about when I can’t sleep) but it’s being difficult for me not to change my vision of life. It’s hard to talk about helping others while there are nearly three thousand of people sleeping in the streets of Barcelona (things you discover making the research work). So I’ll talk about my Christmas, my selfish Christmas, which is the one that makes me happy, being blinded to all of the poverty and cruelty that there’s out there, in our ‘developed’ society. The Beatles said it: Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see.

I love the superficial part of Christmas. I get crazy watching Love Actually and Bridget Jones’s films while drinking hot chocolate in a mug. I love going to the beach with my friends with lots of scarves, gloves and boots and sitting in the sand while having a hot chocolate from Starbucks. Yes, for me, Christmas means lots of hot chocolate with cream. We laugh, we play in the sand and we take photos. The skyline of Barcelona made of little lights in one side, and the deep calm sea in the other side makes you feel an important part of the universe, it’s a magic moment.

In these days I spend my hours in the computer watching TV series, or lovely movies, or looking for cheap flights to London. My family and I have been looking for a cheap trip to London these days, to spend Christmas there, but we won’t go because sure shops and attractions will be closed on the 25th, the 26th and the 1st, so it wouldn’t be worth it! I also adore reading magazines and following blogs on the Internet searching for ideas and what-to-wear on Christmas’ Eve and in New Year’s Eve (although I won’t go to anywhere especial). I look for decorations for my home too. I’m in love with Nordic white decoration with lots of white blankets and white trees with candles everywhere.

But I don’t like Christmas because it’s the time when you most miss all who are not with you. Those who are not sitting at the table the 25th as they used to. I also miss that someone who goes to the village and leaves me alone at Barcelona. The city gets sad without you, and so do I!

So, I’ll try to enjoy the superficial part of Christmas. I’ll savor my grandmother’s great dishes and watch lots of movies with my favorite girls. I wish you all to be the most happy it is possible. I’ll give you a clue: the more hot chocolate you eat, the happier you will feel!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Because kindness keeps the world afloat

This is the story:
Once upon a time a world governed by a chain. Not a food chain, well it also, not a metal chain that binds and oppresses, it’s a chain of favors. A string consists of receiving and giving, giving and receiving. Everyone feels the need to help someone, without counting who is, where it comes from or which his economical level is. What really matters is the happiness that brings help and be helped.
In this world no matter what resources you have to help or share. You can always do something to contribute. The most precious gift is the smile and behind these there are no material items…
Today begins a magical time, a time of hope, solidarity, love and hope.
A time where people anxiously await the time when your family and friends will forward their gifts, a time when the children anxiously await the night when the kings fill the world of presents.
But that's not the most important point. This time of year makes the winter cold a warm cold where people meet, laugh and share. A time when the darkness of night is crowded with brightly colored lights... Which better time than this to think that it’s possible a world like the world described above?

Merry Christmas

The holidays when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ is called Christmas. Everybody likes this because it means family and happiness. Teenagers love the presents they receive during this time, so they order from their parents all the things they need and want.
On the one side, we are always talking about poor people who can't live like us, but during these days we are not conscious about that. We don't really think that most of those gifts aren't useful at all in our lives, so from Africa and other countries where there aren't enough money to buy, for example, a dictionary; remain us it by recording a video about them saying to us that they can help us to get our wishes giving us all their money which is not too much. Here is when we can see that they are happy with less things than us, although we are still angry if we don't have the best TV or videogame. In my opinion, I'm sure that if we had seen this video before, we wouldn't have ordered most of things that we did many years ago.

On the other side, this period of the year is really nice and a lot of people do good things such as helping poor families to buy presents for their children or performing as Santa Claus. But these things should happening through the year because if people helped other people, then they would have a reward for it as the trowel, who helps a young boy that has fallen down and at the end, he is also helped by a waitress who gives him a water glass. Obviously, it's impossible to get it, but if nobody starts, nobody will have a help.

To sum up, at Christmas, presents shouldn't be the most important part for us, because there are a lot of poor countries which are happy without most of the stuff we have, so we can consider ourselves lucky for having this life. Along with it, good deeds are not typically of Christmas, so it's not necessary to do it in this period of the year, just the opposite, we should do it through the year.

SANTA'S NIGHT

When the boys and girls go to the bed on  December 24th, Santa Claus is getting up of  his bed. He works only one day on the year, but this day was exciting for him, cause he must distribute a million of presents for the boys and the girls that have been good on the year.
If you have been bad, Santa does a present to you, but it is a poop or a coal.
If you don’t put a christmas tree in your house, Santa never comes to your house this night, because he can’t watch you!
He drives a bobsled, led by strong and big reindeers. This reindrees are magical, because they can fly! Santa must be faster, because he has only one night to distribute all these presents. The elves who live with Santa in the north pole, help him to do the presents, but they can’t help to distribute.
Santa gets into the house of everybody from the chimney, but now that we are in  crisis, the normal thing is that he gets into the house from the window.
We must put the shoe and a sock near the window, and Santa puts on there a lot of sweets and chocolate into there.
When the night finishes, Santa doesn’t get off the north pole shaft the year that comes. A lot of people come to the north pole to visit Santa, but they can’t see him.
The legend counts than the house of Santa is very good hidden. The first expedition to the north pole was of Robert Edwin Peary, and he said that he didn’t see Santa.
This is one big mistery of  life.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Dear readers,

Christmas is coming and with it all our best wishes of PEACE, LOVE and HAPPINESS. And, obviously, the best way to celebrate it is by reading our students' wishes of a Merry Christmas for everyone!

Our Batxillerat students were shown two videos in class. They had to write about Christmas Time according to what the videos had transmitted to them. Here you find the links, I strongly recommend you to watch them. You'll like a lot!
Our 3rd ESO students were asked to congratulate Christmas to you all ... as they liked it. It could be with a writing, or a video or a Christmas Card done by them.... Sure you'll love their works.

During these following days I'll be posting the works I'll be receiving from all the boys and girls who, with their effort and dedication, want to wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

ENJOY!!!

A HUNDREDTH OF A SECOND. Lluís V. (2n batx A)

A HUNDREDTH OF A SECOND

Then I showed to my grandson an old photography of a little girl shot and lying on the floor.

   - Who is she?-he asked me.

   - I never had the possibility of asking her who she was.- I answered sadly.

   - Do you think she was a good person?

   - I’m pretty sure she was-  I said.

  - And then why did they kill her?- asked me with an innocence voice

I took a breath to answer him but I couldn’t

  - Why don’t you go to play outside, little boy?

I closed the old photo album and suddenly I felt very tired. Forty years had passed since that moment and I couldn’t forget her face yet.
I was a young soldier with the only wish of serving my country. My company was designated in a strategic town in the Middle East. It was a sunny day, people were very thankful with us and everything was going perfect. But then an explosion opened the gates of hell. Someone was shooting at us and we didn’t know what to do... We were absolutely scared.
Then I saw one of the guerrillas who were attacking us. He was threatening a young girl who was terrified. He aimed at her and I aimed at him... But I was a hundredth of a second late.

My grandson entered to the room again, interrupting my thoughts.
   - Last question grandpa –he said quickly- who took the photo?
   - Oh! Your grandmother, dear.- I answered smiling.

WAR

28th November 2012

I am exhausted and so is my soul. The horror in the faces I photograph every day is wearing me out. Today, as yesterday, we have been looking for the best photo: the most terrified face, the most tens moment or a shot in a dead body. That is what western people want to see: how others kill themselves, so that they can feel fortunate.
Today we have gone to Hadrej, as there was a battle there. We have done 200 km in a van with the CNN team; my team and me to take a picture, CNN to film death. That is not what I meant when I entered this profession; I wanted to show the world the sad sight of life and humanity -and I do-, but I have realised that it isn’t ethic nor fair.

29th November 2012

I feel execrable. I’m a sort of furniture watching the events. Just watching how people die around me. John has died today: it is part of the job. But that little child crying in the middle of the road, who has done nothing, seated on the top of his mother’s body with all those flies around him... Oh no! I can’t stand it anymore!
I am getting mad. I could have never imagined humans would be able to be this cruel, this insensitive; this inhuman! There is only death in this place. I had got so used to it that I didn’t even see further of my camera. Thanks god I have woken up of that dream to live the real nightmare. A dark nightmare I want to escape from, but I can’t.

30th November 2012

The photo of the little child appeared yesterday on the front page of Washington Post. I am giving up. In two days I am taking a plane back to USA; that’s enough. I am sorry diary, but I am not capable to write...

2nd December 2012

Here I am: back to the “civilized” world. Now I am far away from war, death and pain –physically- . But I have been injured: injured by all those eyes claiming for a clemency they would never have; by all that hope that people lost; by all that peace they dreamt of; by all that help I never gave them.

You have been my witness, dear diary.
Farewell.
