FAILURE AND SUCCESS Jordi B. (1r batx A)

If you have never failed,
you have never lived

All of the people can do great things. The problem is that many of us we don’t know this or we don’t believe in it.

There is a man that is called Tony Melendez. He was born with the two arms missing and now he is a recognized singer in his country who plays the guitar with the feet. He is an example of overcoming, and my question is: If he can be a great guitarist without the hands, can’t you do everything that you purpose? Yes, of course you can.

Sam Walton, Wall-Mart founder, started working at another supermarket for $45 a month. He showed the world that with a wish and some patience you can reach your dreams.

An important point to fulfill any wish is that you have to do what you want to do, not what people want to see. John Lennon is a big example because his aunt said to him that he would never make a living playing guitar and then he became one of the best musicians ever.

If you follow your dreams you will catch them. You can be all or nothing. It’s your choice.

FAILURE AND SUCCESS Mariona E. (1r batx B)

IF YOU HAVE NEVER FAILED, YOU HAVE NEVER LIVED

Usually, it is common to think that if we want to have a perfect life, everything has to be perfect and favourable to us, but, is that really true? If someone asks you what you should do to be successful, what would you say?

Firstly, I am convinced that a life without problems doesn’t exist and you must fail some times to overcome all the difficult situations, to learn about the world and to grow up as a better person. Moreover, I think that if you’ve never failed, you’ve never lived. Maybe it is so extreme but, in my opinion, only people who have had a few failures or obstacles in their lives have the opportunity to be someone.

There are many people that have succeeded and they didn’t have the best lives, in fact, they had lots of obstacles to reach their goals. For example, try to imagine your childhood without Disney, the music industry without the Beatles, the world of computers without Bill Gates or Steve Jobs… They were ordinary people who started doing small things that became extraordinary things. Do you think these people could become someone if they just have stayed at home? I don’t think so.

On the other hand, it’s true not everyone has the determination to go ahead and It is so important to have support and encouragement from your family and friends, but above all you must believe in yourself. Life is full of opportunities and you just need to try to reach you goals, your dreams.

At the same time, we can say that nobody fails. We try and we learn. It’s just a part of the process of achieving. And even if it’s something we decide that we don’t want to continue doing, that’s just part of the path we’re on. We’ve learned something. Learning is not failing.

To finish with, no one told us that life would be so hard but sometimes you need something to shake you up a bit, push you to your limits and if you reach it, I’m sure you will emerge as a stronger, better person. Failure is found along the path to success. All the adversity you might have in your life, all the problems can strengthened you. You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.

FAILURE AND SUCCESS Sílvia V. (1r batx B)

If you have never failed you have never lived

When we fail sometimes we get depressed with ourselves and we believe that we are losers. Our view of the situation is: Failure means that I will be worse than I was.

But really we have to change our mind because a failure doesn’t mean anything like this; it just means that we have to practise more to do the activity better. Many people are pessimist and leave that failure involves them; this way is truth that they become losers, because they stop fighting for our proposals.

Although we know that some of them are very difficult to make it reality, all of we have dreams. Someone dreams that he will be an astronaut, she wants to buy a big house, he dreams with be one day a footballer player, she wants to become a lawyer, the other just wants that her mother heals and another person dreams with a love message of their boyfriend.

Many of these dreams are not going to be real, but there are dreams like choosing our degree or buy a new and big house that only depends on our effort and our constant fight.

It’s possible that even if we strive for a result, we fail another time. Then, if we have this problem we have to think on the actions we make and understand why we fail this time, and when we make sure that we know how to solve the problem, we must fight again. I am sure that this time we are going to achieve our proposal and we will do reality the dream. We must remember when we fail, that failure is an important part of success, and if we didn’t fail we couldn’t learn about our errors and we couldn’t correct them. Our errors make us grow and be mature.

I have to say that sometimes there are more conditions to achieve a goal, as our personality, our character and our education. I mean some people have never tried to make an effort since he was little because no one taught them or because they didn’t need it. Then this boy will probably fail, unless someone teaches him the importance of the effort in the life.
Obviously learning depends on the person, but with a good education all of people could be successful and makes their dreams reality. If someone told you that you couldn’t realize the dream you have dreamed for years, disappoint him because with motivation we can carry out everything we set, and if you ever fail wake up and continue realizing the dream.

There’s a big difference with a dreamer and a person who has big dreams, because if you have big dreams it means that you’ll fight for him. If you are sure that impossible is nothing and work very hard you can do any goal you want. Dreaming is not bad, what’s bad is not fighting for your dream.

I LOVE SCHOOL Adrià R. (3r ESO C)

I love SCHOOL

I love school because it’s the best way to learn a lot of things and you can make a lot of friends.

In school you have to get good marks and pass the exams. You can’t play truant, you should study, help people and participate! For an exam you can’t study one or two days before a test.

Cheating in exams is horrible because you don’t learn anything, but sometimes people cheat in exams. If you fail an exam you mustn’t copy a friend’s works; you must do your homework in the future, without copying and finding out why you got a bad mark.
Bullying in school is the worse thing that can happen in school. If someone bullies you mustn’t confront it you must tell someone about it. If schools know a bully, they will write a polite letter to your parents.

When I leave school my objective will be having the first certificate, getting a good qualification and becoming more popular!

I LOVE SCHOOL Adrià O. (3r ESO A)

I love my school!

Do I love my school? Not specially (homework), but it isn’t so bad, because it’s so good and there are friendly people who are my friends, though there are not friendly people too.
It shouldn’t matter, but sometimes these things matter.
But normally I like my school, and I usually have good marks at the exams (sometimes I haven’t) and I usually study a lot.
I haven’t done cheats at the exams, especially in English, because I love English class.
In my school, there isn’t artistic baccalaureate, so I will go to another school to be a famous actor (I continue wanting to be famous) but this is another story (and another writing).
Sometimes, I can’t go to school. I don’t play the truant, but to check it, the school wants a justification from my parents. It seems me a good system, because although the students don’t do it, there are students who do it, and a good form to finish with this, is this form.
And I finish with a photo of my school: Jesús, Maria i Josep.

I LOVE SCHOOL! Laura M. (3r ESO C)

I love SCHOOL

SCHOOL: an institution for educating children

This is the definition of a dictionary but, when I listen the word “school” I don’t think that, in my head there appear many images of, school (classes, English videos,  homework and exams…) Sometimes, we have in our head this negative part of school (exams and lots of homework) but we know that this is not all. Sometimes we do specials activities like cooking, Jocs Florals, trips to Girona…

At school we must be quiet, listen the teachers… We mustn’t bully others, play truant, cheat in exams…

In my class there are many different people. Very, very hard students, students with attitude problems… I like my class, my group. It is really fantastic!!

One thing that I really can’t see is cheating. For me cheating is lying it is not fair!

Sometimes at school we have good and unforgettable moments but, if you fail an exam or if one of your school friends jilts you, you can be sad and discouraged so, when you have a bad experience at school you can think: “The next time I would do it well”.

I am sure that I can do things better and that I can have a 10 at English (for it I should study a lot, but it is possible).

So: KEEP CALM AND LOVE SCHOOLJ!!!!!!

I LOVE SCHOOL Marc D.H. (3r ESO C)

When I started school in P3 I was very happy, but now...
It is a little boring. It is boring because all the students must go to school every day in  the morning, and we are tired, very tired.
My favorite subject is English. I hate Maths, because I can’t understand it, it’s very difficult! But I do all the best than I can do. Biology is very interesting, but sometimes really difficult. I love write compositions like this. In the future, I will be a journalist or similar. I.T is funny, but it is very stressful, because all the students are doing questions to the teacher, and she only can understand me when all the others students are in silent, but this is so much difficult. In P.E I do sport, and I like it, but sometimes it is very exhausting. I love doing social sciences, it is funny for me, but not for my friends. I hate Tecnology, because when I started this subject in 1 ESO I imagine than we study the phones, videogames... And in the first class the teacher told to us that we study the houses and different boring things. My teacher tells to me that in 4 ESO, the tecnology is about robots!! I love study it.
One thing that I really dislike about school is that sometimes, the teachers can’t understand you. For exemple if you have a 3,3 in one exam and you must take a 3,5  the teacher makes you the mean. It is only an imaginary exemple, obviously.

PAPERMAN Marc F. (2n batx A)

PAPERMAN

Last February 24th, as every year since 1929, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences prized the best films, the best actors, the best OST and so on. Apart from the big films that have been awarded, as Les Miserables or Django: unchained, there is a short film which has stricken the cinema world: Paperman. This short film was created by John Kahrs, a pretty young film director, and financed and produced by Walt Disney Pictures.

The way I see it, the feats of Paperman are many. The director achieves to keep our attention in a non-spoken film, which is not any habitual nowadays. By a captivating story of a first-view love, he manages to gain our attention all along the seven minutes. The good thing of it resides in the fact that mostly everyone of us has lived a similar experience, an indescribable connection with an unknown person, whether it be in the metro or in the street. That’s the point: we have felt many times like both characters.

About the technical stuff, I can only say that is amazing. The work behind these seven minutes is enormous; it is a fourteen months work! Something that must be highlighted is the combination of traditional animation with new technologies, as Paperman does not reject its Walt Disney spirit, but the contrary: it brings to our minds the Micky Mouse lines, the origin of Disney, combined with the director and XXI century stamp.

In conclusion, the Oscar to the best animated short film could not have been given to anyone else. It is a splendorous art creation which deserves all the recognition it is having. I am looking forward to watching a new John Kahrs’ film.

Love the cinema!

THE OTHER FACE OF THE OSCARS 2013

This year, the 85 th Academy Awards Nominees were celebrated. But, here we are not going to talk about the winners of the most important awards like the best film, the best actor, the best actress or the best director; we are going to talk about the nominee to the best short film animated. The reason is that this kind of awards aren’t considerate important and they go unnoticed.

In the last years, the number of preselected animated films has increased a lot. In the 2010 they were 33, in 2011 they were 45, the last year they were 57 and this year they were about 70. So, it was more difficult to decide the nominees for The Oscars 2013 because all the shorts were really original.

But after a very hard decisions the Oscars nominees for the 2013 Academy Awards for the best short animated film were: Adam and Dog (Minkyu Lee), Fresh Guacamole (PES), Head over Heels (Timothy Reckart and Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly), Maggie Simpson in "The Longest Daycare" (David Silverman) and, finally, Paperman (John Kahrs).

All of them are animated shorts films very original and are about different topics. But only one could win the prize. The fortunate was Paperman that is related with a topic: love. This short film is in black and white and mute, I mean, the characters don’t talk but there are sounds like when the train is arriving, the claxons of the cars, etc. So, it’s amazing and breathtaking how animated characters are able to transmit and tell us a story without saying anything.

For concluding, I would like to say that I would rather that Head over Heels won the prize. The reason is that the love story that it tells is really romantic and very wonderful. I dare say that this short
animated film is able to make you burst into tears because is really tender. I recommend to you see it because it only lasts ten minutes of your life and it is worth.

The great surprise of the Oscars

“Paperman” gives the surprise by becoming one of the big winners of the awards.

Last night the Oscars were held at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The night was uneventful, between glamor and elegance of the nominees and the great excitement that was present in the environment.

The awards were followed without apparent surprises until it came true time for the category of Best Animated Film; everyone was waiting at the outcome of the nominations until finally it was heard that famous sentence: “the winner for best animated film is … Paperman”.

Then a big applause invaded the theatre, was a clear sign of support for the winner. Critics agree that the movie is a great example of the talent of its director (John Kahrs); because it is so bright that manages to convey without speaking a lot of feelings. Its effects are superb and able to transport the viewer to the moment in which the action takes place; besides making the viewer feel as one of the protagonists of the movie.

For all these reasons we can say that this animated film is a worthy winner of the Oscars, as its merits are infinite and its value and quality are unmatched.

Film review: Paperman

Paperman is a piece of art worth watching. John Kars, the director, decided he wanted to make movies when he was 8 years old and in his nominee questionnaire for The Oscars 13th he wrote Paperman was his dream movie project. It seems that this short film is not only his dream, because it has been given an Oscar as the best short film animated. These six and a half minutes of pure gold have given Kars worldwide fame.

The film tells us the story of a man called George who meets a woman, Meg, in a subway station. It was windy and a paper was disturbing her, so he helped her and they started the usual game of looking to each other, getting blushed. Then, suddenly, he is distracted for a moment and she leaves. He goes to work and can’t stop thinking about her, with her paper on his hands. But there she is. Meg’s in the building across the street. George starts throwing paper planes through the window trying to catch her attention but she doesn’t see the planes. When she leaves the building, he runs behind her, but he can’t find her.

But as always happens in this kind of films, music solves are problems. A splendid music piece composed by Christophe Beck guides us while both main characters follow the paper planes that make them find each other in the subway station where they first met.

The black and white pictures, the red details for Meg’s lipstick, the encouraging music, her lively eyes, his big nose… The short is a whole of simple and delicate details united in a perfect composition that makes happy everyone who watches it. Paperman is completely worth watching. Don’t miss it.

PAPERMAN. Ana P. (2n batx B)

Paperman

Paperman has been chosen the Oscar-winning short film. According to most of critics, the film has won the Oscar award because of its originality.

First of all, lots of people say that it’s one more film in the middle of thousands and thousands of love films. But, anyway, other people, especially those who agree with the award of the short film, think that this short movie, following the typical topic of cinema, love, it’s not like the others because this story is quite different explaining all through animated cartoons in black and white, and it also doesn’t use words or voices, and it’s a different kind of story from the others.

It’s a story of a man and a woman who fall in love from the first moment. At this point of the short film, everything is like in the typical love movies, but then, the couple meet again because the paper planes make them go to the station where they met. That fact makes people think that the paper planes symbolize the fate, which make lovers be together if it has to be this way.

For that reason, it’s a beautiful love story that shows more than we can imagine. And as it’s different from other love stories, everyone agrees with the fact that it has won the award.

Paperman (2012)

Director: John Kahrs
Producer: Kristina Reed
Synopsis: Stuck in a paper-pushing prison of an office a man does his best to catch a beautiful woman's attention.
A lonely New Yorker pursues a luminous beauty following a chance encounter. Upon seeing the object of his affections in a distant window, he vows to get her attention by throwing away planes made of paper.

Review

Disney Animation’s short film Paperman, which made its theatrical debut in front of the studio’s current feature Wreck-It Ralph, is one of 10 animated shorts that have made the cut for Oscar consideration and it has won this price.

In Paperman’s story it shows how a man intends to catch a woman’s attention by throwing some planes made of paper, which is a really innocent and romantic way to explain us the beginning of a love story. Or maybe they’re just, finally, friends.

There’s no dialogue, and, what’s more, the film is black and white, which is being more popular nowadays, likewise The Artist and Snow white. So, visual effects have to be very careful to show how the main character feels like. The only colourful thing is the red lipstick mark on the man’s paper.

Furthermore, the musical environment expresses lots of feelings, such as calm and romance.

Despite being a positive and romantic film with a happy ending, it is such a naïve situation which doesn’t happens in the reality. I mean, paper planes don’t have the capacity of unifying two people.

As a whole, this short film has lots of feelings without saying a word. Maybe this was one of the things which make this film really interesting and enjoyable.
