OXTED 2015. Anna D. (3 ESO C)

MY EXCHANGE EXPERIENCE:

My last week in England was lovely. I want to come back in the future with friends and with my exchange partner, Shannon Scanlan.

On first day in England, we went to her house, I unpacked my suitcase and then went to dinner with all the exchange partners.

On Saturday, we went to Oxford Circus and Camden Market, which were both nice. On Saturday evening most of the exchanges went bowling.

On Sunday, we went paintballing with most of the exchanges, I enjoyed it immensely and it was a very good day, because was a new experience for me.

On Monday and Tuesday, all of us Spanish people went to London and we saw the all things in London.

On Wednesday we went to Brighton, all the group of Spanish people, and six girl who went on the exchange last year who are still studying Spanish.

On the last day, it was good because we got to spend two hours in the school with our partners and then we went to the airport to come back to Barcelona.

It was a really good and enjoyable week.

I love my English Family and I hope I can come back to England again because I love it there.

OXTED 2015. Marc M. (3 ESO A)

My wonderful experience in the UK

Travelling to England was perfect. I love it so much! It’s all green and it’s cold but not a lot. Our breakfasts are very different. They normally eat for breakfast some belvita biscuits with juice. What they also drink and it’s strange is a very strong drink but they have to add water because if not it’s too sweet. They don’t have a lot of lunch. A sandwich and something else . Some English people eat chips with peas or beans.

A typical dish on Sunday is meat like beef with boiled vegetables and then they put a sauce (very yummy) over it.  They were very kind. They tried to make our ‘’ pà amb tomàquet ‘’: they prepared me a chorizo sandwich with butter and some half-cutted cherry tomatoes. I explained them that we spread them.

We arrived on Friday and Abel, Tom, Barnaby and me went to Jamie’s house with Pol Salvador and we went karting. After that most of the people on the exchange went to fish and chips. It’s very nice. On Saturday we went to play tennis in the morning and then we went Tom’s house to eat tomato soup. After eating we went to Hever Castle (very beautiful) where I took 400 photos. After Hever Castle we went to Chiddingstone. After that, we went bowling all together and then we ate at Pizza Hut.

On Sunday we went to paintball. They shot me 5 times and I still have bruises. It took all the day. After paintballing we met and played video games. Monday and Tuesday were dedicated to London. On Monday we went to Regent Street and to Oxford Street, we visited the British Museum and the National Gallery and we visited Trafalgar Square. On Tuesday we went on a boat and saw most important places and they explained us what were the things we were looking at. We saw the Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament… All this part.

On Wednesday we went to Brighton. It’s so lovely… It was amazing. I love the pier and the beach is also very good! There were lots of shops there!

And finally on Thursday we attended classes ( History and Spanish) and then we took off the plane to Barcelona.

I love this experience and I love England so much… I would repeat it!!!

MY EXPERIENCE IN OXTED

My exchange in Oxted was very very funny, I enjoyed a lot, with my family there and with all my English friends.

The first day I remember that I was a bit shy, but I think that it is normal, but then the family was so funny and friendly and lovely I laughed a lot with them, and I could trust them since the first time.

Then, when we were in London I think that I have had the best time with my Spanish students there, because it was very very funny. And in Oxted school I met some new English friends.

But I hated the last day because we knew that we had to leave Oxted, and I was very very sad, and I think that all the exchange mates too. It was a sad day, all of us
were crying a lot. But I think that I’ll never forget this big experience .

ENGLISH AS A UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE. Narcís R. ( 1 BATX B)

Should English be the world language?

First of all, I agree with this sentence. Nowadays, a lot of people speak English (it is the language with the most second language speakers) and it is the official language in a lot of countries around the world.
Based on my experience, I also think that English isn’t a difficult language to learn. I studied French for 2 years, and I definitely found it much more difficult to learn than English, and I don’t think that starting to learn English when I was younger had that much impact on my opinion. Even more, If I were a foreigner and I had to learn Spanish from zero, I think that I would also be more difficult than English.
Another reason why I agree with the initial sentence is because it would be amazing if there was a global language that everyone spoke and understood so we could communicate with any person no matter what, and I think that everybody agrees on this. I know that most people want their mother tongue to be the world language, but I think that English is the closest language to achieving it, even though we are still very far from having a world language.
On another point, even if one day English became the world language (or another one), the other languages would need to be kept in order to respect other cultures.

TRAVELLING BROADENS OUR MIND. Albert A. (1BATX A)

DOES TRAVEL BROADEN THE MIND?

Travelling abroad is always a great experience and you can learn a lot from it. I believe that travelling can broaden your mind because it gives you a lot of new experiences and knowledges, here there are some examples:

The first category is the cultural knowledge, you learn about different customs while you are travelling. This might help you to understand their lifestyle and you maybe try to copy their customs to live better in your city. Another activity related to culture Is eating new food. It's nice to try other tastes and who knows, maybe you can cook it by yourself in your hometown and impress family and friends.

The second category is the adventure experiences, you can go hiking to enjoy beautiful landscapes on the top of a mountain or you can walk around a city to see wonderful buildings. You can take pictures, or you can remember the moment for the rest of your life. This activity might be interesting to understand why things happen, you can visit a museum and discover a lot of diferent topics, or you can simply go sightseeing for fun and relax.

Trying new activities or sports is one of the best things that you can do in a trip. This helps you to understand their culture and have fun with your friends and family, you can find any sport in any country. Soccer in Spain, rafting in some rivers, cricket in England, surfing in Hawaii... but my dream is to go skiing in Dubai.

Finally, you can try to socialize of people who live in that country, you can chat with them and try to learn something about their beliefs, maybe when you come back home you value more the things that you usually do everyday and you didn't notice they were special for other people. You can make a lot of friends from every trip and if they come to your hometown, you can make them a guided tour. Talking to other people you learn or improve their language.

In conclusion,  travel does broaden your mind and it's one of the best things you can do. As always, I would recommend everyone to travel and discover new cultures to be more tolerant of the world.

WELCOMING FOREIGNERS Adrià H. (1 BATX A)

Sometimes, here in Spain, we have interchanges with other countries people who come here to Spain.

Their countries are so different from Spain, because of their cultures, their languages and food. Their traditions are very different, including the timetables, which depending on the country the person comes from are totally extreme. A clear example is when it’s time to eat; they probably have dinner at 5 p.m. while here in Spain we have it approximately at 9 p.m.

So if a foreign boy or girl comes here to Spain I’ll recommend them to accustom to Spanish schedules. It won’t be easy, because if they eat at 11:30 a.m., we do it at 2:00 p.m. Then, the other possible problem is the food. Every country has its own food. For example, Japanese diet is composed by insects and many types of food which, here in Spain, most of us we won’t ever taste them.

Now, talking about the way the Spanish people act, we can say that foreign people will have to do things politely, because in many countries they act less politely than us and it could be a problem for us because they will litter the country.

To be closing, I want to say that people from other countries will be totally welcomed and I’m pretty sure that they’ll feel very comfortable. Spaniards will receive them open-armed because Spain is one of the most visited countries in the world

News from Oxted! Laia C. (3 ESO A)

Here I am !

Hurst Green. Now it is 17:15 and I am waiting to have a shower.

We have had a quiet day.  First of all, we have woken up late and my English parents have prepared me a typical breakfast from here. It was delicious!

After that, we went to Hever Castle, a beautiful castle with huge and beautiful fields. We have been walking a long time around, we visited the store and we finally met with Anna Xiu and her partner Madi. There was a maze, where Ben, the younger brother has lost. It has been a great day

Yesterday was a fantastic day too.In the morning, my English mum took Lauren and me to Oxted, so I could visit it. After that, we had lunch at home, and in the afternoon, we met with Jana, Estel and their partners. We spent all the evening with all the students in the exchange. First, playing bowling, and after, having dinner together.

I'm really enjoying this opportunity, and learning too.

I hope the remaining days are equal.

Bye,

ENGLISH AS A UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE. Paula F. (1 BATX B)

Do you think English should be a universal language?

Nowadays, the most spoken language in the world is English, so if you want to be understandable when you go abroad, you need to have a little idea of how to speak English.

Everybody wants their mother tongue to be the universal one but this is impossible because there are around 4000 languages in the world. We have to choose one of them.

I would discard the ones that don’t have the Latin alphabet because they are more difficult to learn. I also would discard the minority ones because only a very tiny percent of the world population know them and it would be very hard to expand it all over the world.

In addition, most of the students around the world, including me, are studying English at school so is easily to incorporate this language in the society.

In conclusion, English should be the universal language because it is the most common and it is relatively easy to learn.

ENGLISH AS A WORLD LANGUAGE. Ru C. (1 BATX B)

SHOULD ENGLISH BE THE WORLD LANGUAGE?

First of all, there are a lot of languages in this world, so we can’t decide with clarity which is the best to be the world language. However, it is clear to me that the English is going to be the world language because it is very famous in a lot of countries.

Secondly, I believe that we need a common language to communicate to each other, because nowadays there are a lot of people who like travelling or who have to travel for their jobs. Also, we need a language that is easy to learn and English is one of the easiest languages in the world. For example, there are many places where people speak English and it’s not the mother tongue of those people. So I’m sure that in the future we will have a common language that is going to be English. Also, I know that in a lot of jobs they want that you have a very good level of English so that’s another reason about why English is very important to our lives.

In conclusion, I am convinced that English is going to be our world language, maybe not now but in a few years yes.

TRAVELLING BROADENS OUR MIND. Marina P. (1 BATX B)

DOES TRAVEL BROADEN THE MIND?

Most of people think travelling is a good way to know more about the world, to improve the language you are studying or to visit new places different from yours.

I believe that when a person travels a lot, he/she knows more about other cultures of the whole world. And there are a lot of different customs to live in a particular place, such as in the North Pole it’s not the same than in the South Pole. Of course, the food is peculiar in every country too; for instance in China it is typical to eat rice to join the food.

Travelling is perfect to practice new activities and to live more adventures. If you live all the year in the mountain, you can travel to a place with beach and do, for example, surf or windsurf,  that are funny activities. Another reason to travel is the fascinating landscapes. Different views of each country are fantastic to take a lot of photos because they are so perfect to remember the days you spent in a place.

Travelling to other countries is great to know new people, to hear other perspectives. There are so many different people in the world!!

Another important thing of travelling is that you can improve the language you are studying. The thing is that at the same time you are spending an incredible time, you are learning too.

To conclude, travelling is the best form to eat special food, to learn the language and to know more about our world.

I wish one day I will travel to all the countries and know about them!

POL AND ELLE. Oxted Exchange. 3ESO

My exchange partner

Her name is Elle Moore and she is from England. She lives in a house in the countryside near Oxted, a village near London. She lives with her mother, older brother, and with her dog.

She is a very nice girl with brown and a bit curly hair, pretty brown eyes a normal nose and a small mouse. I really think she is very beautiful but she has got boyfriend in England, what a pity L jajajajaja.

Her hobbies are playing rugby at the club Edenbridge in Oxted and going out with friends. But what she really loves is relaxing. She is very lazy and she doesn't like walking.

Nowadays I'm really excited to go to England and meet her family and visit new places. I think she has had a very nice days here in Catalonia and I hope to have nice days too when I go there, but I'm a bit scared because they speak so quickly English and I think I won't understand  many words but I think it will be a very nice experience and I hope to improve my English there!

My experience

This has been the best experiences in my life, I want to repeat every day. I also had our disputes when he tried to take clothes into his room..., but it doesn’t matter. The truth is that I am proud to have chosen a girl, because in the end we had more feeling between us.

What surprised me is that all bring a mega bottle of cologne that every 15 minutes, now that we have left when I enter the room still smells like her and I feel sad. Or that I thought that in breakfast they eat a lot, but she only ate a cupcake.

The exchange that I befriended were Jessie, Elle, Jamie, Jed, Eloys and Barnaby. I Love them a lot <3

Give thanks to Miriam because I had Deana, because for me these days she was like a sister. And ask God for strength when within 2 weeks I have to go there, and she has two sisters!!.

Some of the good memories was when Jessie bought a walking  toy, that had shapped penis.

Now, every day that passes I find it more missing.

OXTED-BCN Exchange

First of all I want to say that the experience of an exchange is amazing because you learn a lot. The first thing you learn is the language. I have learnt a lot the pronunciation and a lot of words they say like the idioms they use. The second thing you learn is the culture they have and the traditions in their normal life.

There are things we do that they don’t do. We have done the first part of the exchange and now we have to go. I’m very excited to go to England.

They have visited the main things of Barcelona. In the weekend, Estel and I and our partners visited the Montjuic Fountain and MNAC and we also visited Port Vell and we went in the Golondrina boat. The fountain is very spectacular.

My partner Barnaby is funny and friendly. He missed a lot her mother so I sometimes get a bit stressed because if you don’t know a person, you can get nervous.

It’s a very hard experience because you go to another country and you don’t know the language very well and you don’t know lot of people so it’s difficult but you have to enjoy as much as you can.

But they had a very good week here in Barcelona and they enjoyed a lot.

 OXTED EXCHANGE

My writing is going to be about the exchange that we have done during this week. I would like to explain what we have done these days with our friends from England.

First of all I decided to participate in this exchange because I really like meeting people from other countries; I think  it’s a good way to make friends. And also because I have never been in London and since I was 10 years old I wanted to go there.

I remember that last Saturday I got up at 8 o’clock very nervous, I was excited. When we arrived at the airport there were a lot of people nervous like me. We waited for 45 minutes and then they came through the door. I was a bit shy but when I saw Karem, my partner, I started to talk and then we became good friends.

She has helped me to write my composition, to do my English homework, to tidy my room….she was friendly, lovely, funny…

At the weekend we went to the bowling and to the port where we played on the beach. On Monday we went to school and we had breakfast there. They also went to our classes and they “worked” with us.

Between Tuesday and Thursday they went to visit our beautiful city, Barcelona, I think they enjoyed it a lot. On Friday all the participants on the exchange went to Sitges, we went by train, and we played on the beach again, it was my favourite day.

This exchange has been amazing for me, we have done a lot of interesting and funny things. So I can only say that I have enjoyed this week and I want to repeat it. In 14 days I’m going to go to England and I hope to have a good time there.
