150th Anniversary of ALICE IN WONDERLAND. PBL 1 BATX.

Welcome to the 2015 Alice's Adventures in Wonderland 150th Anniversary!

This year marks the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll's book Alice's Adventures in WonderlandTo celebrate it, we've prepared a PBL activity for our 1st Batxillerat students on the different topics in the book.

Our students were divided in 11 groups and they had to work on different aspects. Each group drew one of the characters in the story. You can see them in our Batxillerat corridor. They are real artists!!

Then, they were asked to find information on a topic and write it down. Only 1 page. So we could also place their writings at the corridor.

They've learnt many things about the story!! These are a few of their writings:

"Lewis Carroll’s real name is Charles Ludwidge Dogson. He was born in January 1832 and died in January 1898 when he was 65.  He was an English writer, mathematician, logician, deacon and photographer"

Albert, Aida, Marc, Clara

"Alice Pleasance Liddell was an English girl who inspired the children's classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis’ real name) and Alice were friends since Alice was a little girl."
Diana, Mònica, Arnau, Brittany

"The White Rabbit may represent Alice’s father in Wonderland, Dean Liddel, the main coincidence is that both of them are  always late, as we can see in the book."
Ainhoa, Ignasi, Javi, Laia

"The Cheshire Cat is a really important character in Lewis Carroll’s book, it represents madness. It is the Duchess cat, Alice finds it in a tree when she leaves the Duchess' house. The cat is able to disappear and appear when he wants; he always has a big smile on his face. However, it is the only character that listens Alice and explains her which are the rules of Wonderland, for example when he says: “Everyone is mad here, even you Alice”.
Dani, Gerard, Mireia, Elena

"The expression “to be mad as a March hare” is used, of course, to describe people who act as if they were lunatic. This quote became popular when Lewis Carroll included the March Hare in his book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. She is always doing rare things. For instance, she thinks that she is at Tea Time all the time. She also celebrates a Party of Unbirthday!"
 Laura, Paula, Ana, Joel

“Animal, Vegetable or Mineral” is a popular Victorian parlour game.
In the book,  the game appears when Alice meets the Duchess
and she tells her:
"Flamingo's and mustard both bite"
Alice responds:
"Only mustard isn't a bird. It's a mineral, I think"
In Through the Looking Glass, the Lion asks Alice:
"Are you animal - vegetable - or mineral?" "
                Ru, Cèlia, Enric, Aitor
And finally, they were also asked to prepare a PowerPoint presentation to be explained in front of all the class. This time, about a different and more demanding topic such as GROWING UP, IDENTITY or CURIOSITY, FANTASY and REALITY, GROWING UP, LOGIC SYLLOGISMS or MATHEMATICS and ALGEBRA.

Some groups have also had time to prepare some activities related to the story of Alice for our Primary Education boys and girls. So, very soon we'll go to their classes to work with them.
It's really been a rewarding experience for all of us. And we want to conclude by giving you a couple of wonderful quotes:

“But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can’t help that," said the Cat: "we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad."
"How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.”
― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

“One of the deep secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others.”

MY EXPERIENCE IN LONDON

When people are talking about U.K.,talking about London, they have to refer to Buckingham Palace,Tower of London National Gallery and the British Museum. Luckily,I visited all of these great sights. Now they are not only big names to me,but also a part of my experience,a part of my memory.

My parents thought that a London adventure would be a great introduction to traveling overseas.

My first morning there, I remember that her two sisters, Georgina and Olivia woke me up, putting Justin Bieber & One Direction songs. It was horrible. Now I miss them loads, especially Deana, my exchange, which has been much for me as for her the best experience of my life.

What I must liked, were the breakfast, huge bacon sandwiches with sausages and one fried egg. It was a delicious.

I liked most days that we were with the families that when we were doing tourism. Sunday best, as we went to pantball, a game that never had the pleasure of practice and where we are now planing to go with my hockey team.

Perhaps the only thing that I liked to do was raise the London Eye, which is one of the best tourist attractions, as from up there is a nice sight of London.

If I still have chance to visit London next time,I will definitely go there. One week couldn’t be enough because there’s so much to do, so much to see in this city.

ITALY 2015 Anna M. (2n BATX B)

My experience in Italy

First of all, I would like to thank all the teachers who made this trip possible. It has been one of the best experiences that I have lived and live.

On the one hand, I liked all the places that we visited, highlighting Milano. Also, another thing that I loved was how good the food is. I ate very well every day; pasta, pizza, tiramisu... it was terrific.

On the other hand, I loved the confidence you had teachers toward us. And also  I liked very much the views from the "Campanile" of Venice.

I liked very much to be with my friends at the hotel, making us pictures and leaving holiday. I spent it a lot, but very well. Secondly, I liked a lot a day out at night to dance. I enjoyed it very much because none of the students expected to exit any night, and upon receiving the news we were so glad. It was also very fun a night we were playing poker, I had no idea of playing and from that day is something more about the game.

What I did not like about this trip or I liked least has been that in Venice it rained. As the streets are very narrow and above were going with umbrellas, walking was stifling and my group spent a lot of time in the restaurant.

Summarizing, it has been an incredible experience that I will never forget and that I would recommend to all students who would have the opportunity to do the trip.
